High School Equivalency Program Overview
The High School Equivalency program at 大学 of The Albemarle’s (COA) 大学 and 职业生涯 准备 program is designed for adult students who test above a ninth-grade level in math and reading but have not obtained a high school diploma. The program offers instruction to prepare learners to successfully pass a designated high school equivalency assessment. The two nationally-recognized assessments used to obtain a state-issued High School Equivalency diploma in North Carolina are GED® and HiSET®.
Instruction is provided in the following subjects:
- Combined reading and writing
- Language arts
- 科学
- Social studies
- 数学
Each instructional area aligns with the subject areas on the designated High School Equivalency assessment. The High School Equivalency program offers:
- Day and evening classes
- Online, face-to-face and hybrid (combination of online and face-to-face) instruction
- Alternative Learning Packets

入学
To join the High School Equivalency program, complete the 大学 and 职业生涯 准备 Application for 入学. Minors between the age of 16 and 17 also qualify for the program. Minor admission requires the parent/legal guardian to complete the Minor Application for 入学. This application must be notarized. Minor applicants whose last school of attendance was within the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Public School System must obtain the Minor Application for 入学 from the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Schools Drop-Out Prevention Coordinator. All others may obtain the application by completing the 大学 and 职业生涯 准备 Minor Application for 入学.
The following documents are required for admission:
- Social 安全 Card
- Unexpired state-issued photo identification (or passport or military identification)
